Calm Scientist with an Aptitude for Fearful Cats

My name is Jeong Hyun, but most people call me JH. I have been in the academic/non-profit biological research sectors for my entire career. Up until recently, I have been working as a mid-senior level scientist managing a team of 13 scientists, but decided to resign in order to pursue new opportunities. I've always enjoyed meeting kitties and have cat sat for friends in the past, so I am excited to have an open schedule and time to do things I’m passionate about like spending more of my days with cute floof balls!

I have a calm demeanor and know how to greet shy cats, especially having worked with my own extremely timid kitty. I have a good understanding of feline body language and vocalizations. I'm also a small person and don't think cats feel threatened by me, so I think that certainly helps me gain the trust of fearful kitties. I also know when to recognize the signs of stress and know when to stop if the cat is not responding positively. For example, my cat Nana hates getting her nails trimmed but will tolerate it up to a certain extent. We may just get a few done at a time, but when she has reached her limit we stop. She gets rewards or playtime for positive reinforcement and then we try to finish up another time.

Devoted and Patient Cat Mom

I've always loved both cats and dogs, ever since forever! We had a small family dog (toy poodle mix) when I was growing up. After leaving home for university and graduate school, I was unable to have pets due limited income while I was a student, and also out of respect to roommates who did not want pets in the home. However, as soon as I had the financial security to move into my own place, I adopted my cat Cappuccina within the first month of moving.

Cappuccina (Nana for short) is a 10 year old Ragdoll mix. I adopted her from the Rescue House. They told me that she had been dumped by her original owners and subsequently adopted, but was returned because she was extremely shy and wouldn't come out of hiding for over a month. I adopted her knowing this in advance and was ready to be extremely patient until she felt comfortable. Surprisingly, she opened up to me within a few hours, and we’ve been bonded ever since. She's still very shy and will immediately hide when she sees someone new, but is very loving once you get to know her. She has beautiful soft fur and an extremely cute round face - it's just too bad that I can't have her meet more people because she gets so stressed out. I love sharing pictures and videos of her with my family and friends though.

I am excited for the opportunity to care for more cats and give you peace of mind while you’re away. I treat every furry client as if they were my own. Whether it’s cuddles, playtime, or just quietly keeping them company, I’m here to make sure your furbabies are happy and comfortable while enjoying their staycation. I look forward to meeting you and your feline family!
